In response to the devastating floods affecting southern West Virginia, West Virginia University is leading a campus-wide Flood Relief Donation Drive to provide critical support to families and communities in need.

The WVU community is invited to participate in the donation drive, which runs from Feb. 25-27, with multiple opportunities to contribute.

“Mountaineers always stand together—especially in times of crisis,” said Kristi Wood-Turner, assistant dean for community engagement and director, WVU Center for Community Engagement. “Through this donation drive, we’re bringing our community together to provide essential support to those affected by the floods.”

The primary donation site at the Erickson Alumni Center will be open on Feb. 25 and 26 from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. and 8 a.m.-noon on Feb. 27.

Donations also will be accepted at the WVU Men’s Basketball game on Feb. 25 at 9 p.m. and the WVU Women’s Basketball game Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. A box truck will be parked outside the Coliseum during both games to serve as the collection site.

The drive focuses on collecting supplies for flood buckets and hygiene kits to help families clean up and maintain basic needs.

Items in highest demand include:

  • 5-gallon round buckets with resealable lids
  • Heavy-duty trash bags or contractor bags
  • N-95 masks
  • Kitchen and work gloves
  • Laundry detergent
  • Household cleaner

  • Hand towels and washcloths
  • Soap (in packaging)
